Lots of stars and lots of hydrogen gas clouds dominate the field in this 3 hour exposure taken the night of October 17, 2011. NGC6974 is a small fragment of the larger Veil Nebula in the constellation of Cygnus. The richness of stars is because we are looking into the Milky Way where there is a great deal of dense stars. The varied star colors ranging from orange to blue are indicative both of the age of the star and the star temperature. This image is a difficult one to process, and I'm not completely satisfied with the quality of the stars and detail in the nebula. You can see a full view of the nebula in my wide field image. This nebula can be found between the east and west arms of the larger nebula.
