LDN 1622 is an obscure dark nebula near the constellation of Orion. It's very faint, and even after 22.5 hours of exposure it's not as detailed as I would like. This is an LRGB image with H-alpha blended into the color channels. The obscuring dust of LDN 1622 is thought to be much closer than Orion's more famous nebulae, perhaps only 500 light-years away. This image taken between February 15 and 25, 2012 in less than ideal sky conditions. Click on the image for a larger view.
