The Spider nebula (IC 417) The spider nebula is an emission nebula, where the hydrogen it contains is ionised by radiation from nearby hot young stars, causing it to glow red.  The Spider nebula is about 10, 000 light years from Earth, in the constellation Auriga. This image is 11 hours of exposure, and it is not enough for this dim nebula. It was taken the nights of December 9 through 13, 2010. More data coming for this object.
