This dramatic object is 1600 light years from earth. It is the brightest nebula visible in the evening sky and can be seen easily in binoculars. This exposure, over several nights in October and November of 2006, has 150 minutes taken through a hydrogen-alpha filter and 30 minutes of color data. There was an additional 210 seconds of exposure of the bright core of the nebula. Click on the image to see a more detailed view.
