Horsehead Nebula with Hyperion Astrograph

A total of 3.5 hours of luminance and RGB data. This nebula is just below one of the bright stars of Orion's belt, Alnitak, which you can see at the lower left. There are several objects in this image. The dark nebula that forms the Horsehead itself is known as Barnard 33 (B 33). The red background is the emission nebula IC 434, the reflection nebula, NGC 2023, is the bluish cloud below and to the left of the horsehead. This image was taken January 5th, 2009 using an SBIGSTL11000M mounted on a Paramount German equatorial platform.
