NGC281 in Narrowband

HSTngc281-11-22

This is a beautiful nebula in the constellation of Cassiopeia. The nebula was discovered in 1883. Near the center is an 8th magnitude star with 4 companions. So in this frame we see a star cluster, a nebula, and the dark Bok globules floating in deep space. The nebula is about 10,000 light years away, and it's about 80 light years across. This is a 14 hour exposure taken the nights of Novermber 18-22 using Narrowband filters,  combining emissions from the nebula's hydrogen, sulfur, and oxygen atoms in green, red, and blue hues.
