M51-Whirlpool Galaxy

One of the most spectacular galaxies in the skies of the northern hemisphere. This spiral galaxy is actually two intersecting galaxies locked together by gravity. At the tip of the spiral is the smaller galaxy, NGC5195. This exposure was taken on April 30, 2006 with 80 minutes of luminance time and 60 minutes through RGB filters.
